Isi artikelIndonesia has made a significant progress in regulating provisions of earthquake engineering design for buildings moving from uniform hazard concept to uniform risk concept upon recognizing the uncertainties involved in the resistance of buidings subjected to earthquake loads. In contrast to the seismic design map of the 2002 which were based on ground motion values with 10%-in-50-years exceedance probability, the probability portion of the Risk Targeted Maximum Considered Earthquake (MCER) of the proposed current code (RSNI2 03-1726-201x) are equal to the 1% collapse probability of failure within 50 years values. The MCER values would be slightly different from Maximum Considered Earthquake with 2%-in-50- years exceedance probability or earthquake with an expected return period of 2500 years. Uncertainties involved in the resistance of buildings due to record to record variability, limited amount of data, material variability, and structure modeling are included in the formulation by means of first order second moment method. The logarithmic standard deviations of resistance are estimated by means of nonlinear time history dynamic analysis using several history earthquakes scaled to condition in Jakarta. The proposed MCER values are calculated iteratively after establishing the performance function until 1% life time risk is obtained.
