Isi artikelNew shear connector which can be used for narrow spaces was developed. The type of shear connector is called “Grip Dowel” which is PBL (Perfobond Lib) with slit steel pipe; the pipe set in the hole of PBL. Previous studies have reported different conclusions with the size of concrete specimens and confinement effect of the reinforcing bars. Therefore, in this research, static test was conducted to determine the confining effect of hoop reinforcements. The result shows two conclusions which are as follows: (1) In the Grip Dowel, as the diameter of reinforcing bar is increased, shear strength increases. This is because that concrete around the shear connector provides more confining effect as the diameter of reinforcement becomes larger. (2) Before cracking the specimens with and without reinforcing bar behaves similarly under low loading but after cracking the behavior changes. The shear strength increased with increase in reinforcement diameter after the cracking which could be explained by the increase in confining effect of the concrete.
