The first family interview is the critical first encounter with a family. A successful outcome for both the family and the pediatrician is ensured if the pediatrician is clear about the goals of the interview, the techniques to be used, and his role and tasks. Family-focused pediatrics is an approach to addressing challenging behavioral-developmental issues that affect children and parents alike, all of whom must be included in the solution-finding process.
