Abstract
PLA filaments are generally used as material to create prototype that will pass through the test and some inspections in industrial, especially manufacturing industries. However, the filaments cost are relative expensive. So, this thesis will explain the design and build the prototype of PLA filaments production which aim to produce filaments with 1,75 diameter and 1 kilogram per hour capacity. Prototype of PLA filaments production uses two types of process, heating and ex extrusion. Before the granules was extruded, the granules of PLA are heated at 180°C which is controlled by temperature control until the granules change into gel form. After that, the screw will push the melted granules into the nozzle mold. Based on the test result, PLA filaments have been produced a 0,5 kilogram capacity in one hour.
