Abstract
Background: Dry eye is a multifactorial disturbance that has high prevalence in
Indonesia. One of the causes is globalization, where usage of electronic display
devices increases in frequency and intencity. Despite the high prevalence, there are
still many people who do not know and ignore symptoms of dry eyes that can cause
further complications. In Indonesia, there is no research about the relation between
dry eye symptoms with viewing distances and relation between questionnaire
subjectivity and objective tests
Methods: This research is done analyticaly with cress sectional design that includes
workers in Central Jakarta offices, both working with short and far distance sight.
Datas were collected by personal interview, and objective tests were done on the
next day. Datas were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 and tested using chi square and
mann-whitney method with 95% confidence intervals and value significance p <0.05.
Result: From a total of 60 respondents, 30 with daily short distance, and the other
30 daily long distance.. 22 respondents (73,3%) from short distance group and 4
respondents (13,3%) from long distance group feel that they have symptoms of dry
eyes. Result shows that there is significant correlation between sight distance and
symptoms of dry eyes (p=0,000). Compared to the objective test results using Oculus
Keratograph 5M, 32 respondents (53,3%) were proven to have subjectivity in the
questionnaire.
Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between daily viewing distance and
symptoms of dry eyes. Subjectivity is found in questionnaire when compared to
objective tests.
