Abstract
BACKGROUND : Medical students have some pressures during their study that
could have a futher impact into depressive disorder or anxiety disorder. Depressice
disorder and anxiety disorder can be affected by many things, extrovert – introvert
personality is one of them. Individual with extroverted personality is characterized
by impulsiveness, active, sociable, being warm, cheerful and optimisti, so that is
predicted to be more protective to depression disorder and anxiety disorder. In the
other hand, individual with introverted personality is characterized by being quiet,
passive, unsociable, careful, and pesimisti, so that is predicted to be more susceptive
to depression disorder and anxiety disorder.
METHODS : This study is a cross sectional study. The study was conducted by
interviewing respondents to determine whether they have depressive disorder and
anxiety disorder with MINI ICD-10, then respondents filled up an IPIP 100 Big Five
Factor questionnaire to determine their personality. Samples were collected from as
many as 50 preclinical students of faculty of medicine of Atma Jaya Catholic
University of Indonesia in Academic Year of 2015/2016. Data were collected and
analyzed by using Chi Square test.
RESULTS : The result showed that there is no significant association between
extrovert and introvert personality and depressive disorder (p = 1,000), as well as
anxiety disorder (p=1,000).
CONCLUSION : There is no association between extrovert and introvert
personality and depressive disorder, as well as anxiety disorder.
