Isi artikelTeaching English to young learners requires a different approach rather than teaching adult or adolescents in order to achieve the maximum end result of learning. The reason of having the dissimilar approach is due to the characteristic of young learners. Cameron (2005) stated that there are number of young learners’ characteristic such as: (1) they are more enthusiastic and energetic as learners; (2) they will still perform or accomplish a given task by the teachers even though they do not understand the purpose of the task; (3) their attention are easily get distracted; (4) they are not able to maintain their motivation when they find that the task is hard; (5) they have difficulty to use language to have discussion about language, in other words, the way teachers explain the language should be different. The teachers need to think and prepare how to describe the language to arrange the discussion with them. Therefore, finding an appropriate approach to cope with young learners’ characteristic is very important. In this research, we observe three classes in K2 (Kindergarten 2) level who are applying the task-based approach in the classroom, to discover whether this approach is appropriate or not to teach English to young learners. However, it is a challenged to study how “the task-based language teaching approaches” is applied in teaching English to young learners from experiencing the real classroom situation. The aim of this paper is to describe the task-based language teaching (TBLT) in teaching English to young learners. We explain how the teachers apply the techniques of TBLT in classroom, the interaction between the teachers and the students and among the students, the students’ participation in classroom activities, and the progress that the students have made by the end of the session.
