Isi artikelA high Reagan Adminstration official explains that while current U.S. economic policies have successfully led the United States out of recession and have promoted export-induced recoveries abroad, there remain some "unusually large and important imbalances" in U.S. domestic and international economic relations. He outlines a six-point program that will lead to correction of these imbalances and to still further economic growth. A distinguished public official, economist, and corporate executive, George P. Shultz was named Secretary of State in 1982. He had earlier served as Secretary of Labor (1969-1970), as director of the Office of Management and Budget (1970-1972), and as Secretary of the Treasury and assistant to the President (1972-1974). Before his appointment, he was chairman of Bechtel Group, Inc., and professor of management and public policy at Stanford University. This article is based on an address given by Secretary Schultz before the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University, in April 1985.
