Isi artikelOne popular method for ensuring information security is the use of public key ciyptosystems. The infrastructure used for storage of public keys is denoted as Public Key Infrastructure (PKI). PKI consists of several services that are all needed for information security. The Certification Authority (CA) is the core component of PKI, responsible for computing digital certificates and digital signatures. A digital certificate published by a CA can guarantee the authenticity of a public key of some entity or user of a public key cryptosystem A digital certificate proves the user’s identity and shows that he owns permission for a certain service or electronic transaction. in the real world, a non-digital certificate is e.g. a identity card, a driver’s license, a finger print, or a notary document. Therefore the usage of a CA is of vital importance to ensure the integrity of data and electronic transactions in the Internet. This research studies two PKI program packages that have been used in the Internet, e.g. PGP and X.509. Moreover we create a Certification Authority. For this CA implementation, we study and evaluate the OpenCA software (based on X.509) and PKS (based on PGP), where PKS is compared to OpenCA. This IKP can also be applied to mobile systems (WAP), e.g. at the WAP Gateway (side of provider), where the wireless network is connected to the Internet. Because of limited available hardware for a WAP Gateway, we restrict our research however to the Internet model only.
