In many countries and industries, manufacturing management is still subordinate in strategy making to the marketing and financial functions. Many firms have no formal manufacturing strategy and simply not geared to a business's corporate strategy. Without a meaningful strategy, firm often make short-term decisions that are in conflict with their long-term goals, which invariably results in a poor match between manufacturing activities and the firm's overall strategy. This research describes how operation management in PT X using manufacturing audit approach as key element to formulate manufacturing strategy that fit the corporate strategy. The formulation of manufacturing strategy proposed by Menda 2004 has applied in PT X and particularly used for medicine product A and B. manufacturing strategy alternatives adopted include cost reduction and variations of flavor for product A. For product B, manufacturing strategy adpted is only cost reduction.
