An Analysis of Students’ Correction on Machine Translation Output of English Report Text Into Indonesian
Article from Proceeding
TransCon 2015: The 5th Atma Jaya International Conference in Translation & Interpretation Studies, “Terminologies & Neologisms in the Eyes of Translators”,
The purpose of the study was to reveal the students’ correction on machine translation output and to find out the types of students’ correction errors and their frequency of occurrence. The errors collected were identified and classified using Surface Strategy Taxonomy to explain the ways surface structures are altered. The findings presented the types of omission, addition, misformation, and misordering errors, their detailed description, and the frequency of occurrence of each error type. This study hopefully gives a new perspective in the usage of machine translation and the students’ ability in correcting the MT output to convey the intended meaning to the readers.
