Family Patterns in the English-Speaking Caribbean
Article from Journal - ilmiah internasional
Journal of Marriage and the Family vol. 30 no. 01 (Feb. 1968)
A review of 12 studies completed in the English-speaking Caribbean islands of Bahamas, Barbados, British Honduras, Carriacou, Grenada, Trinidad, and the Virgin Islands, as well as Guyana, is the central focus of this paper. The samples were predominantly rural, lower-class families, and the studies were completed during the 1951-1960 period. The findings of the studies are reviewed, and some comparison is made between the family patterns found in the various islands which are strung out on a 2,500-mile area in the West Indies. A discussion of "marriage"and "household" is included in this paper.
