Currently-married women residing in dwelling units selected via systematic sampling in a middle-class Omaha, Nebraska, neighborhood completed a questionnaire which assessed, in part, the norms held by such women regarding the employment of wives and mothers, Type of norm system (traditional vs, modern) was related to respondent's employment status and length of employment since marriage, religion, age, husband's education, presence or absence of children in the home, and marital happiness
