Professionals working within pediatric clinics have a challenge to broaden their clinical focus on children with genetic disorders by actively collaborating with genetic support groups to improve services for patients and families. These voluntary organizations become partners with health care providers in the delivery of supportive services, education, and advocacy. A true partnership asks both pediatric professionals and patient organizations not only to specify what areas of expertise each has to offer but also to listen and consider what each can learn from the other.
