Advances in genetics will create an increased demand for and awareness of clinical genetic services. These services focus on the diagnosis, management, and genetic counseling for heritable disorders. Given the limited numbers of clinical geneticists and genetic counselors now practicing, much of the application of new genetic technologies and knowledge in this decade will fall on primary care physicians.
