European politicians need to translate complex issues into simple languange if the EU is to recover its popular support, says Loukas Tsoukalis, President of the Athens-based ELIAMEP think tank. Having the MEPs elect the Commision's President would be a start. Europe's political class seems to be going back to basics. Shocked by the French and Dutch No Votes, and depressed by falling public support for Europe, thanks in part to the persistent tendency of politicians to scapegoat Brussels, many have begun to think again about the fundamental of integration.
