Backman, Bowers and Marcus found that expert power is the inly one of the five bases of power delinated by french and raven, that consistently has positive correlations with measures of organizational effectiveness and total power. Other researchers also have demonstrated the greater organizational importance of expert versus reward power. Does exercise of expert power result in the same positive evluation regardless of the person's other characteristics? Previous research has shown that external status characteristics (such as race and sex) cue differential general expectation states.
