This paper reports relationships between the aptitudes required by jobs and the psychological rewards offered by jobs. Some low but consistent correlations were found between numerical, verbal, and clerical aptitudes and variety and autonomy reward attributes. Correlations of verbal and numerical aptitude requirements with work satisfaction were as strong as correlations of variety and autonomy with work satisfaction.
