Isi artikelUsing data from special supplements of the census bureau's current population survey, this paper enumerates change sin wages and selected job and worker attributes by firm employment size category between 1983 and 1993. Between 1983 and 1994, the number of full - time, large - firm workers increased at nearly twice the rate of increase in the number of full - time, small - firm workers. Over the same period the average hourly wages of small - firm workers rose much more than those of large - firm workers. The relative wage gains of small - firm workers are partly (if not mostly) a result of steep increases in the cost of employer - provided health insurance. The date show no notable firm - size changes in workers' level of education or years of job tenure during the 1983 - 93 time period.
