Isi artikelTrends and cycles in housing production play a key role in the performance of the united states economy, and the federal reserve manipulates housing production in its efforst to fine - tune the economy. The housing sector has been operatinf close to capacity in recent years, and a modest slowdown in productions is in the cards for 1997 - 98. Average numbers of new housing units produced for the years through 2005 should compare favorably to earlier history, particularly for single family homes and persistent uptrends in residential remodeling and exisiting home sales should keep the housing component of GDP on a upward path.
