Roy had asled me to appear on a panel he was hosting at a recent international institute of forecasting meeting in istanbul. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the meeting. However, I was successful in turning the tables on roy and convinced him to guest - host a column on some research he has conducted on the subject of econometric software packages. I found roy's conclusions to be quite interesting and his points well made. I am particularly intriqued with the idea of an interactive web site where all the purveyors of econometric software could demonstrate their wares, and where a potential customer could input her / his requirements and get a list of all the packages that would meet these requirements. I am forwarding this idea to our NABE technology committee, in hopes that we might be able to add such a feature to NABE's web site. I'll keep you posted on the results.
