Isi artikelWhile the demand for home appliances in western europe is projected to rise from 56 million units in 1992 to 63 milion units in 2002, the share of the region in global demand will shrink from 29 percent to 23 percent during this period. The market is mature and competition for market share will remain keen. Some rivals will merge or form alliances. Fastest growing categories will be microwave ovens and dishwashers, the slowest will be refrigerators and freezers. Environmental changes, now in progress, range from phasing out harmful chemicals in refrigerators to water conservation in washng machines. Technical improvements include induction cooktops, microwave clothes dryers, and the use of advanced sensors for energy and time savings.
