Measurement of treatment outcomes and costs is the foundation for these analyses, and a set of principles have ben established for good studies. A number of controversies, both methodological and practical, remain. Pharmacoeconomic evidence may be used to justify prices, assist in reimbursement and formulary adoption decisions, and in medical decision making.
