With the increased emphasis on the prevention of accidents and the addition of safety devices to automobiles, we enter a new era in orthopedic traumatology. Patients with chest and head injuries now are surviving with severe pelvic and lower extremity injuries. Orthopedic surgeons and trauma surgeons have to work together in these challenging cases. This article presents fractures that have a high incidence of mortality and fractures with a high incidence of long-term morbidity and long-term impairment
