Epidemiologic data provide valuable insights into the mechanisms of sharp injuries during surgical and obstetric procedures. These data make it possible to develop strategies, instruments, and equipment to reduce this injury rate. This article discusses the existing database and its application to current surgical technology in the reduction of the number of injuries that occur during obstetric and gynecologic procedures.
