The safety of pancreaticoduodenectomy has improved in recent years. Despite reports of in-hospital mortality rates of 4% or less, nearly 50% of patients who undergo pancreaticoduodenal resection will have some form of postoperative complication that may prolong hospital stay. The management of the more common postoperative complications, such as early delayed gastric emptying, pancreatic fistula, intra-abdominal abscess, and hemorrhage, is reviewed
