Isi artikelCollagenous colitis is a rare cause of chronic watery diarrhea in middle-aged women. Because radiographs and colonoscopy are essentially normal in this disease, diagnostic suspicion must be high to prompt blind biopsy, which in turn demonstrates a characteristic histologic picture. Eosinophiic colitis is extremely uncommon and occurs in pediatric and adult populations. The disease sometimes may be linked to ingestion of specific foods or medications, suggesting an allergic etiology. Neutropenic colitis is a septic inflammatory process that develops most commonly as a complication of treatment of leukemias and lymphomas. Supportive measures often lead to resolution; whereas surgery is reserved for uncontrolled sepsis and bleeding and perforation. Return of functioning neutrophils and overall prognosis of the primary disease determine eventual outcome of the colitis.
