After the difficulties in the diagnosis of injuries to the extrahepatic biliary ducts are overcome, the technique of repair is based on the patient’s hemodynamic stability and the extent and location of the ductal injury. An extensive lateral defect may be managed by a variety of patches, whereas transection is best treated with biliary enteric anastomosis over stents.
