The high incidence of thyroid neoplasia in thyroid nodular disease during pregnancy has been documented. Various tumor growth factors and altered immunologic conditions of pregnancy seem to enhance the growth of thyroid neoplasms. Nodular thyroid disease during pregnancy, therefore, should be evaluated promptly; and neoplasms documented by ultrasonography and needle aspiration biopsies should be considered for thyroidectomy either during the second trimester or immediately post par-tum.
