The prognosis for patients with carcinoma of the breast in pregnancy is identical to that for the nonpregnant patient. The reason for the apparent poor prognosis in pregnancy is late-stage diagnosis. Treatment during the first two trimesters should be mastectomy. Abortion has no place in the management of carcinoma of the breast during pregnancy. Subsequent pregnancy is acceptable.
