As an endeavour to reflect on the ethical consequences of developments in biomedical sciences and technology, bioethics is already a universally accepted idea. In Indonesia the concept is also acknowledged as something that is important to be considered. Nevertheless, we have to be aware of the ambiguities around this concept. The second part of the article describes the contribution that could be given by the Center for the Development of Ethics at Atma Jaya Catholic University to the development of bioethics in Indonesia.
