Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) is clearly better than operative gastrostomy performed under general anesthesia. Whether or not PEG offers any significant advantage over operative gastrostomy performed using local anesthesia remains to he proved. Operative gastrostomy performed with local anesthesia seems comparable to nonoperative techniques.
