Isi artikelThe high recurrence rate after closure alone of perforated chronic duodenal ulcers suggests that proximal gastric vagotomy be added in stable patients. Controversy exists as to which patients with perforated acute duodenal ulcers should undergo definitive ulcer operation in addition to closure. Short-term omeprazole can be used to heal recurrent ulcers in all groups, although long-term risks with this agent are not known.
