Isi artikel
Despite over 100 years of experience with the disease, treatment of lung cancer remains perhaps the greatest challenge in oncology today. Not only has the overall cure rate changed little, only rising from 8% to 12% in the last 50 years, but the disease has established itself as the leading cause of death by cancer in both men and women. Today we are faced with a variety of new approaches to lung cancer in terms of staging, chemotherapeutic agents, radiation therapy, and surgical techniques. How useful any of these will prove to be remains to be seen. This article summarizes the present situation with treating potentially curable lung cancer with multi-modality treatment.
