The active involvement of nurses in the policy and political process is a professional responsibility. This article describes a fellowship program aimed at building the necessary competence for such activity in the context of aging health policy. The purposes of and strategies used in the fellowship program are described, including the fellow selection process, the issue selection process, and the design and conceptual framework of the program. Outcomes are described in terms of skill development of fellows, reflections of faculty, and effect on increasing fellows’ interest in gerontological nursing and aging policy.
