This year election is also a real test for the sustainability of the new order government. In this paper we corroborate that economic policies hwich have more political weight than economic rationality, would be unbefitting and create more new problems in achieveing favorable economic growth, distribution and economic and political stability. The indonesian economy is expected to grow at about 7 percent per year, even though the rate of inflation is also 7 percent per year. The blossom of high economic growth could be hindered by a high deficit of current account, which could reach more than US $ 9 billion. We also examine five economic policies that are very important at the post - election periods. These are : macroeconomic stabilization, investment, trade, banking and national industry policies. The paper then offers more sustainable and consistent development strategies to achieve more conducive economic growth and distribution.
