This paper analyzes the impact of government regulations of market structure on the indonesian economy. The analysis is focused on a variety of industry that has operated under monopoly and oligopoly for many years. Several protections on the industry of merchandised goods such as glass platter, automobile tire, motorcycle, palm oil and processed rubber have cause economic distortions and unfavorable domestic - resource costs. Paradoxical phenomena in the indonesian economy were identified in this study. The consumers, whom the majority are low income family, have to pay a very expensive price for merchandised goods, while most producers in the industry enjoy unbelievably good protection from the government.
