Household support where the elderly live, play important role for the elderly well being. Poor household may cause one of the welfare supporting factors lessen. The purpose of this study was to know how far is social security needed by the elderly especially who live in poor household. This was a cross sectional study and was held at 5 district in Jakarta. The sampling method was 3 level cluster strat~/lcation with 205 responden. The result of this study were /7% of the household where the elderly live were poor; about 90% ex government civil employee and Indonsian Armed Forces receive pension; not more than half responden who receive pension get health insurance; most of the elderly did not have savings, most of them did get financial support but in a limit amount, and elderly who receive pension, health insurance and have savings lend to live not in a poor household. Some suggestion include giving information to the pensions to receive or use their rights in health insurance, and giving motivation to the younger community to save apart of their income.
