Isi artikelGerry Gladstone still doesn't know what bit him. After a little over a year as president of allied machinery company, he;s out looking for a job again, Things started out so well, too. When Allid's board first offered him the job as president, gerry was delighted. He had always wanted the opportunity to run his on show, And with his prior experience as the general manager of the machinery division of a large conglomerate, he was confident that he could turn the smaller firm arounf. He felt that he had learned just about everything he needed to know about running a employer. Moreover, his division had been one of the most profitable in the corporation, and particularly adept in competing against allied. No wonder allied's board had high hopes that gerry would be able to turn their company around. Unfortunately things haven't worked out quite that way. A year later allied is still doing quite poorly and hasn't even been able to get its share of the substantial increase in its industry's sales. Why was a manager with a proven record and impeccable credentials unable to work his accustomed magic in his new position? What gerry found out, much to his chagrin, was that he had been "spoiled" in his previous management positions.
