It started on a coctail napkin during aflight from new york to dallas. I jotted down a few notes about the old and new marketing following a seminar with several technology based companies. The note yellowed a bit, but emerged at the top of apile a few weeks later. I idly made a list of ten basic business functions and activities from MIS to manufacturing to international market development. I then filled a page with old and new under each. It turned out to be a frightening exercise. I would not have suspected before that we had so much old baggage to shed. We do. A world turned upside down was an all too obvious title. Regardless of the nature of the function, internal or external all bets are pretty much off.
