Isi artikel
Varicella is the number one cause of vaccine preventable deaths in the United States. Live attenuated varjcella vaccine induces humoral and cellular immunity in greater than 95% of recipients, and there is no evidence for waning immunity following vaccina tion. Protectio11 against typical varicella is greater than 95% in all age groups. Breakthrough cases occur in less than 1% of vacciflees per year and are significantly milder than Wild-type varicella infections. Herpes zoster is less common in vaccinees than following natural varicella. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices now recommends varicella vaccine for all susceptible individuals in the following categories: children at daycare or school entry adults exposed to children, postexposure to varicella and asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic HIV infection.
