As human beings, we are simbolic creatures. We do not only look for simbolic meaning that lies behind things, but also create simbols. Sometimes we create the simbols consciously, but in the other times we do it spontaneously and become aware of it as a result. We realize that we have created is a symbol when it has been done. That is exactly what happened as for as cargo cults are concerned. Cargo movements began in the early meeting between the Melanesian indigenous people and the European ones. Cargo, which was brought by the European people, might had given new meaning to the Melanesians' perception on material things and their vision of wealth. Likewise, their hope of cargo was not only relating with economical things but also with the sosial and religious dimension. Supporting Brian's idea, I believe that cargo movements in Melanesia can be seen also as simbolic realities.
