Isi artikelThis paper presents a Keynesian explanation of economic growth in Indonesia by emphasizes on the role of demand, especially export. The theoretical model adopts Thirlwall model (1982) that elaborates the balance of payments position as the main constraint on economic growth. It was able to delineate the sources of growth in real output into three key factor: exports, capital inflows and the effect of relative price changes. The findings indicate that the growth of exports has been a significant and important sources of Indonesia economic growth during 1971-2003. The results also reveal that capital inflows has been important of economic growth in the short run, but in the long run it has a negative effect because most of the capital inflows content has the form as debt. A big accumulation of debt can hamper long run economic growth. The relative prices do not appear to play an important role in the economic growth of Indonesia.
