Cancer is a malignant tumor or malignant neoplasm. Cancer cells usually multiply rapidly because uncontrolled division of cell and lock of normal regulatory mechanism. this unregulated mechanism caused by damaged or mutation of genes which regulates cell growth, thus cancer is a disease or disorder of genes, but not a heredity disorder. Cancer are associated with exposure to environmental factors such as tobacco smoke, radiation with ultra violet, etc that caused damaged or mutation DNA that encode for protein controlling cell division. This mutation can also cause by certain viruses that can insert their DNA into the human genom or mutation in genes repair for DNA damaged (eg. replication error). A proto oncogene is a normal gene, code for proteins that help to regulate cell growth and differentiation. Mutations in the proto oncogene can become an oncogene, thus cell to divide excessively and uncontrollably. Tumor suppressor genes is a gene for coding proteins that suppress mitosis and cell growth. Generally tumor supressor genes are activated by cellular stress (hypoxia or ultra violet radiation) or DNA damage. Include tumor supressor is a protein p53 from encode gene p 53 / Tp 53. However tumor supressor genes can damage or mutate itself, consequency of this that DNA repair is inhibited and DNA damage can accumulates thus leading to cancer.
