Lichen planus (LP) is an inflammatory autommune condition that may result in both mouth and skin lesions. It is usually chronic with periods of remission and exacerbation. The oral lesions are more persistent and therefore, more difficult to treat. The purpose of this paper is to discuss a comprehensive management of oral lichen planus (OLP). Initially, OLP should be treated with topical corticosteroid accompanied with antifungal. If it does not respond well to the topical agent, systemic steroid may be administered under special care and consideration. Other treatment modalities such as topical cyclosporin or tacrolimus, retinoid, PUVA may be considered as subsequent therapy. Predisposing factors must be eliminated. These include removal of analgam restoration, management of stress, anxiety and depression, management of hepatitis C infection and substitution of drugs that are suspected as the causing agent of lichenoid reaction. Conclusion : comprehensive management of OLP requires interdisciplinary teamwork consists of oral medicine specialist, dentist, psychiatrist, and internist.
