Isi artikelWhen the communist party came to power in 1949, just under 0,8%of chinese were baptized christians. Today the goverment officially counts 21 million catholis and protestants combined, or 1,6% of the population. But this is a gross under estimate, since the majority of christians do not attend official churches.
