Isi artikelDenitrifying bacterium have the ability to produce nitrous oxide or nitrogen gas from the reduction of nitrate or nitrite. Gaseous end products of nitrate and nitrite reduction by denitrifying bacteria have correlated with nitrus oxide emission from the estuary. Based on biochemical identification, the denitrifying bacteria found in colneastuary sediment were the genera of comamonas and shewanella. The gaseous end profuct of nitrate reduction by comamonas testosteroni was 100% N2, while shwanella putrefaciens was 100% N2O.
