The definition given by WHO for myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the myocardium. in its course it may progress to heart dysfunction, which will be known as an inflammatory cardiomyopathy. Studies conducted in north america and europe showed viral infection as the most common etiology. When a case of viral infection happens to the human body, inflammatory cell infiltration may develop in heart muscle tissues. The viral infection and replication will in time cause a wide variety of immune reactions. These immune reactions play a major role in causing dilatative cardiomyopathy, a condition with a poor prognosis due to remodeling of the tissues. Here we will discuss the topic of viral mycarditis with a closer look on pathomechanism and the treatment. Just like any other disease, a wide and true knpwledge of the pathomechanism of the disease will lead to a better treatment.
