With a growing need for better and more plentiful vaccines, traditional vaccine companies are responding by increasing manufacturing capacity, the biotech industry, with innovative products. Both are surely needed. The landscape in vaccine manufacturing ahs cahnged radically over the past 30 years. In 167, over a dozen licensed vaccine manufacturers operated into the united states alone. This number has since collapsed through mergers and exists to barely a handful. Low profit margins, the introuction in 1980 of good manufacturing practices (GMP) to vaccine production (which caused manufacturing costs to skyrocket)...
