Human genetics studies of complex traits have been facilitated by the completion of the human genome reference sequence, the ongoing identification of a dense set of humang single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and the increasing understanding of how those variations are organized within major world populations. But several challenges lie ahead before the increasing success of searches for genes that predospose for common disesaes can make a tangible impact on diagnostic, preventive or therapeutic strategies.
